CIRCULATE™ is a national continuing medical education initiative designed to provide pulmonologists and other health care professionals with up-to-date practical information and tools to optimize the care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD is a progressive inflammatory lung disease which is frequently associated with a history of smoking. Airflow obstruction is due to a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema, whose contributions vary in different patients. Adherence to the latest evidence-based guidelines, appropriate use of all available therapies, and effective patient communication and education strategies could do much to enhance treatment and patient outcomes.
