TARGET AUDIENCE

This educational activity is designed for pulmonologists, primary care physicians (family and internal medicine), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and respiratory therapists.

STATEMENT OF NEED

COPD is preventable and treatable but not usually reversible. Smoking cessation, reduction in lung hyperinflation through medical and surgical approaches, and long-term pharmacotherapy remain the three main approaches toward modifying the course of COPD. There are multiple guidelines that have been published and updated for the management of COPD. Primary care and pulmonary clinicians are most frequently the ones involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with COPD. In addition to the under diagnosis of COPD, and despite the clinical guidelines, there are many patients that remain undertreated and/or inappropriately treated for their COPD.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT

The France Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
